Pride Mountain Vineyards, located on top of Spring Mountain, is a 235-acre estate with a wooden-beamed, modest-sized winery that blends smoothly into its mountainous surroundings. The 2006 merlot has red cherry, raspberry, cocoa, and tar notes in the nose that frame a broad wine with plenty of stuffing. With the first sip, the mouthfeel leads into the wine's more serious side, as weighty but sweet tannins extend into a minutes-long finish.
