25th Anniversary
The Pinot Noir grape has been around for a long time and traces its roots back to the Burgundy region of France. When the Romans invaded the region in the first century AD, they found the native Gallic tribes drinking a wine made from wild native vines, which are thought to be the forerunner of today's Pinot Noir. While an earlier name for the grape was Morillon Noir, as far back as the 14th century, there are records in Burgundy of a vine by the name of Pinot. Another interesting fact - when those Gallic tribes were making their wine, they used wooden casks to age and store the wine, unlike the Romans who used clay vases.
Fast-forwarding a few centuries brings us to California, the home of Williams Selyem Winery and some of the greatest Pinot Noir vineyards in the world. Williams Selyem has concentrated on finding vineyards that produce grapes with just the right flavor profiles. We bring in grapes from prime vineyards in Mendocino County, the Central Coast, the Sonoma Coast, and our home appellation of the Russian River Valley. Each wine has those distinctive qualities - depth of flavor and texture - that can only be found in Williams Selyem wines.
