Breathtaking equine figurine from Meissen, No. N279. In luminous ivory porcelain. Scene depicts the struggle between youth and the strength of one of nature's most powerful and majestic creatures. Signed by the artist. With distinguishing Meissen porcelain marks identifying the piece's authenticity. Meissen's trademark of crossed swords, derived from Augustus' coat of arms, is known the world over as a mark of the finest quality and a great history. The swords are painted on the porcelain body after the first firing but before the application of glaze, using a special color of cobalt blue and was first adopted in 1724. Meissen is known as "Europe's finest porcelain," and was the first true porcelain to be created in Europe. The tradition of excellence that began with Meissen porcelain so many years ago has continued to grow and gain popularity throughout the world.
