Bicycle Alley was founded in 1984 just one step away from its present location. In the beginning, the employee roster contained three employees one of which was a volunteer.

At the Time, mountain bikes were in their infancy and suspension was unheard of on a bicycle. The Specialized “Stumpjumper” is credited with being the first production mountain bike. This same model, which Bicycle Alley has sold from the beginning, currently sits in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C.
