Peter Barnett's specialties are landscape and portraiture.  He works primarily from life and works quickly, in sessions of about an hour, trying to capture the immediacy and truth of a given moment in light and color.  He was raised in Williamstown and in Rome, Italy.  Peter Barnett graduated from Amherst College and earned a Ph.D. in Art History at Harvard.  He taught at Clark University and then at Earlham College for ten years before returning to New England and working as a business systems analyst.  He retired in 2000 and is now a full-time artist with a studio at Indian Orchard Mills and gallery representation around New England.  Peter Barnett has had several individual and dual shows around the Springfield area and has taught at the Springfield Museum of Art.
