Bio:
Born in Boston, MA, Mark Curtin graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a BFA Summa Cum Laude. Mark has, despite numerous distractions and directions, maintained a consistent career as a professional artist. Winners of numerous awards, his drawings and paintings can be seen in many private collections across the country from Washington state to Florida. He has displayed his work in several galleries and colleges, most notably the R. Michelson Galleries in Northampton and Amherst, MA. Referred to as an "artists' artist," he has earned a strong reputation regionally as an exceptional draftsman with a distinctive style. Mark lives with his wife Stella in Chicopee, MA.
Artist's statement:
"One of the forms of nature I enjoy drawing and painting is the blossom of a dried rose because it is beautiful and also stagnant, which allows for long periods of observation without changing. Roses are rich in line, subtly of color, and have a wealth of associations. They are compact shapes that reflect light in many ways--transparency, translucence, reflection, and absorption."
