Artist's statement about "Upper West Side, NYC":

"A view towards the posh upper west side of New York City as seen from Central Park.  The tree branches provide an interesting framework to the distand buildings."

Artist's Statement:

"My approach has always been highly intuitive, using traditional methods, producing straight photography without manipulation.  While craft is an important aspect, the creativity lies in the 'seeing.'  This is always the greatest difficulty.

"My subject matter is whatever interests me.  Trees are a favoriate, as is almost anything old, especially with signs of heavy use and character.  As vital as the subject matter is, I am very often drawn by the quality of light which can bring me back to a scene, sometimes on several occasions.  Even the familiar can be literally transformed under the right conditions.

"Much of my work has been done with the classic wooden view camera, ranging in negative size from 4x5" all the way up to 16X20"....These cameras engender a deliberate, contemplative way of photographing, but the effort produces negatives rich with incredible detail and marvelous tones, which can produce contact prints of absolutely stunning beauty."
