Scott Prior holds a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and lives in Northampton with his wife, Nanny Vonnegut, two sons and a daughter.

Prior has had many solo exhibitions in the Northeast including several at the Alpha Gallery in Boston and the Maxwell Davidson Gallery in New York.  His local group exhibitions have included “Survey: Eight” at the Zone Art Center in Springfield and “Eleven Alumni” at the Fine Arts Center Gallery, University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Prior’s work is represented in the collections of the Berkshire Art Museum in Pittsfield; the Comptroller of the Currency in Washington, D.C.; the DeCordova Museum in Lincoln, Massachusetts, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.  The artist’s most famous work, “Nanny and Rose” – a nostalgic portrayal of his wife and golden retriever sitting on the front porch, hangs at the Museum of Fine Arts.

An accomplished realist, Prior has been widely praised for his attention to detail and his ability to capture light and shadows.  His work frequently features his family and such simple subjects as his kitchen and back yard.
