Description

This painting called "Back to School" was inspired by the children returning to Cambridge Montessori School in the fall of 2007.  The painting is meant to portray the multicultural and yet American face of CMS.   The little girl, although of ambiguous ethnicity, is still dressed as the quintessential princess, like so many her age.  The boy’s face, much like my own son, is the quintessential American freckled faced kid.

Most of my work features children, who are my true inspiration.  I began painting after the birth of my first daughter.  My favorite subject is the portrayal of ethnic children in traditionally European or mythical settings.  My little niece, who is African American and has become my muse, is featured in my work as a mermaid, a princess, a fairy, etc
