This pencil with grisaille watercolor wash titled "The Four Men" is dated 1949. The artist, Robin Charles Ball (1910-1978), is a genre and abstract painter of the period. He studied at the Hastings School of Art and at Farnham College of Art. His work has been exhibited at the Royal Academy and at numerous galleries in the provinces.
