Mitchell was the City of Atlanta's 2007 "master series" artist, with a retropective spanning 32 years. She had solo exhibitions at the Atlanta Contemporary (2005) and The Factory/Kunsthalle/Krems, Austria, 2006. Her works are in numerous collections, including MOCA GA, the High Museum,and the Speed Museum. She has exhibited at the American Academy & Institute of Arts & Letters and the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
