RIC CHERWIN - DVD ALL OF ME (ALMOST)
Ric Cherwin was born into a family of singers, musicians, writers, artists and actors. Thus at birth was his fate sealed. Any profession other than the performing arts would have caused ridicule and disdain within his immediate and extended family - singing, playing, writing and performing became his passion, which continues unabated to the present day. Ric has performed throughout the U.S., Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Central America and the Caribbean before crowds as small as three and arenas as large as 24,000. He was invited by the Cuban government to perform his original compositions all over the island of Cuba which he spent one month doing, along with many of Cuba’s finest musicians. Locally, Ric has been featured at the US Open in Flushing and the Tribeca Film Festival (both places serving as entertainment director, where he shamelessly hired himself to perform), and scores of concerts in NYC. Ric has produced and opened for major jazz artists, including Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett, Patty LaBelle, Harry Conick Jr., Art Garfunkle, Aretha Franklin and Diana Ross among scores of rock, jazz and popular music legends, and has been acclaimed as a virtuoso on the recorders and wood flutes. He also plays piano, percussion and various woodwinds, some not so well. As a composer for the New York off-Broadway scene, he has written and musical directed in collaborations with, among others, Sam Shepard, Howard Koch, Shakespeare and Chekhov, the latter two without their knowledge or consent. He produced the nationally televised re-opening festivities for Ellis Island involving more than 250 performers from 25 countries, hundreds of major corporate events and fund-raisers, and co-produced with Oprah Winfrey, the nationally acclaimed play, From The Mississippi Delta. His first of three album received the highest rating and acclaim in the review in the New York Daily News; his next CD, MY MIND TOOK OFF WITHOUT ME, speaks to the inner voices which inhabit Ric’s psyche. His latest release, a DVD, offers highlights from Ric’s last 8 concerts. Ric is also an actively practicing psychotherapist, major fundraising auctioneer, occasional attorney, writer and retired editor from the Daily News. He does no dentistry and never will.
