Silver Repoussé Sugar and Creamer (pair), (Sugar 2 5/16 inches dia.; 1 3/8 in high) (Creamer 2 ¼ inches dia.; 2 ¾ inches high); Circa 1875.
Statement by Carl L. Crossman, expert in oriental trade goods, “Where did I see such things on all my travels? India first comes to mind, then I keep thinking Indonesia, where anything and everything in that style is possibly at Batavia (Jakarta) or Singapore. Ceylon? Burma? Somewhere out there. They are quite good fun with the very English shape and the Far Eastern repousse - did I just say English? Not that everything wasn't copied back and forth...I think I'll go with India a little after the fact - in other words early shape, later manufacture - this continued into the late 19th century...”
