Founded in America's Bicentennial year of 1976, Boston By Foot, Inc. is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to promoting public awareness of Boston's rich heritage of architecture and history through guided walking tours. We have been recognized by a variety of esteemed organizations, including the Boston Society of Architects, who has called us "Boston's--and the world's--peerless architectural walking tour service."
Beacon Hill:From the golden dome of the State House, to the elegant homes of Louisburg Square, this tour offers examples of Charles Bulfinch and his followers. By daylight or twilight, “The Hill” casts a spell of enchantment.
Heart of the Freedom Trail:An ideal introduction to this city, this historic walk features seven designated Freedom Trail sites. Included are the Old State House, where the Declaration if Independence was first read in Boston; the site of the Boston Massacre; and Faneuil Hall (“The Cradle of Liberty”).
Literary Landmarks:Our literary stroll highlights the homes and haunts of such great Victorians as Hawthorne, Thoreau, Alcott, and Longfellow. Individually, they were writers and poets without equal. Collectively, they made Boston the epicenter of American Letters.
North End
The North End is a delightful labyrinth of narrow streets and exotic marketplaces. This 90-minute tour covers the history of America’s oldest neighborhood from colonial days to the present, as well as the history of the city through waves of 19th century immigration.
Victorian Back Bay:
Boston’s Back Bay is the largest and most significant example of surviving Victorian architecture in America, and the country's top 19th Century urban planning achievement. Its treasures include Trinity Church, the Boston Public Library, and grand rows of stately townhouses.
