Description

"Self taught Canadian artist, David Alexander Risk grew up in Markham, Ontario and now makes his home near Haliburton, Ontario. He and his wife, Sharon, have three children.  Working at various occupations throughout his early years, David cultivated his love of art and nature and in 1985 decided to make it his full time career.  In 1986 he issued his first prints, “Tranquility” which soon sold out.
David works in a variety of media including oils, water colour, acrylics, pen and ink, and pencil.  Although best known for his realistic portrayal of wildlife, he is also accomplished at landscapes, portraits and impressionism.
Throughout the years David and Sharon have contributed to many worthwhile humanitarian and conservation projects.  In 1988 David painted “Miracle in the Making” for the Rotarians and proceeds from the sale of 2,500 prints went to inoculate children in developing countries against polio.   The prints sold out and the original painting was presented to the Queen Mother.  David has also presented work to entertainer Bob Hope and former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney.  David's work is also owned by many corporations and devoted collectors.  More recently David donated the painting “Campfire Traditions” to the Haliburton Highlands Health Services Foundation with sales of prints helping to raise money for local hospitals.  The Haliburton Stewardship Council has also benefited from his philanthropic efforts.  Working with and teaching children to appreciate art and nature is a passion of David’s and he continues to devote many hours in various classroom settings to this."
