This extraordinarily unique behind-the-scenes tour through the Physical Anthropology Division at the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution will show the attendees the ongoing research being done in the division. This tour will focus on the non-destructive investigations of mummies and skeletons from the physical anthropological collections using Siemens Computed Tomography machine, and will also illustrate other Smithsonian objects studied using this equipment.

The tour will also include a visit to the dry environment room (the "Mummy Room") of the Anthropology Division.

Special Instructions

Since this is the Physical Anthropology Division, visitors should be aware that they will be seeing human remains, both mummified and skeletal and will be discussing death and pathological conditions. The CT scanner room and "Mummy Room" are not large, so group size should be limited to 10 or less individuals. Only by special agreement should children under 10 be considered for the tour.
