Cass Scenic Railroad is a historic logging railroad and town that includes the world's largest roster of authentic geared steam locomotives, free interpretive tours and shows, caboose rides and more in the beautiful WV mountains. Visiting Cass is a step back into the early 1900's, when men and machines performed great deeds. The town was constructed out of the wilderness in order to provide for the labor that was needed to run the massive logging operation and mill built by West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company. For nearly 60 years the mighty Shay steam locomotives worked the hillsides hauling logs down to the mills. Since 1962 Cass has been a unique state park, preserving the locomotives, railroad, town, and history that tells the story of men and a mountain.
