Description

Tea on the Terrace for 12 guests at the historic Marston House Museum followed by a tour of this uniquely designed Arts & Crafts mansion.

Enjoy an elegant mid-morning or afternoon tea on the terrace of the majestic 1905 Marston House Museum, overlooking the rolling south lawn.  Your tea menu includes an assortment of finger sandwiches, scones and clotted creme provided by Shakespeare's Corner Shoppe, followed by a piece of coconut creme pie, the favored desser of patros of the popular Marston Department Store in the 1950s.

The Marston House Museum is one of San Diego’s finest examples of the Arts and Crafts architectural movement. Completed in 1905 for prominent merchant and civic leader, George W. Marston and his family, this 8,500 square-foot home is surrounded by four acres of rolling lawns, manicured formal gardens, and canyon pathways. Designed by renowned architects, William Sterling Hebbard and Irving John Gill, the home’s exterior demonstrates the transitional phase from the structure and rigidity of the Victorian age and the English Tudor intent of its original design to the simplicity, ease of maintenance, and “form follows function” philosophy of the Craftsman period.
