With this travel package you will receive a handcrafted up-close and personalized tour of one of the nation's largest national landmarks, The Amana Colonies.
Escape from the ordinary and experience the old world charm of the Amana Colonies. The Colonies started out as a group of settlements of German Pietists in Iowa, comprising seven villages, in order to live out their beliefs and live a communal life. Today Amana is a major tourist attraction known mainly for its restaurants and craft shops (woodworking, wine shops, brewery, general store, etc.). The colonies as a whole have been listed as a National Historic Landmark since 1965.
The Guest House Motel is conveniently situated in the heart of the Colonies. Enjoy Amana German-style food at the historic Ox Yoke Inn (read about its history). Your personalized two-hour tour will be tailored to your interest and will include a "back-stage" tour of two of the Colonies' unique businesses: the Amana Furniture Shop and the Millstream Brewery. Spend a morning or afternoon playing golf at the Colonies' award winning golf course. Take home wonderful Amana made products such as an Amana blanket, handmade chocolates and a handmade tote bag.
