Description
Enrich your home with this beautiful 2'x3' Tibetan rug, made by hand by Tibetan refugees at one of the premier carpet makers in Nepal. This top-saddle design features a splendid central flower in subdued hues, it is a reproduction of an antique rug. The carpet measures is of highest quality, 100 knots per inch, all Tibetan wool.
Tibetan rugs, once cherished possessions of the rich and famous, are now the most sought after home furnishings in the world. Paul Susnis travels to Nepal each year and returns with a great selection of fine, hand-made Tibetan rugs of all sizes and in both traditional and modern design. Every carpet has a story that starts with gathering wool from sheep roaming high on the Himalayan plateau. This wool is unlike any other owing to the extreme altitude and harsh weather - particularly thick, long, and lustrous - and rich with lanolin. The natural high amounts of lanolin and long fibers create exceptional wool that is soft and silky yet stain-resistant and durable. The more these carpets are used the better they look.
Everything is hand-done. The craftspeople hand-card the wool, hand-dye it, and after that, they weave. When you see the hand-made rug and machine-made rug, you can see, right away, the difference. This takes so much skill and tradition, and the outcome is very beautiful. The carpet industry continues to be an important source of income for Tibetans living in Tibet, Nepal, and India.
