Eido Shimano Roshi Original Scroll Calligraphy

Item Number: 165

Description
Let "What is this?" illuminate your universe. Zen master Eido Roshi calligraphed this scroll specifically for the Shambhala Sun Foundation's auction. It is said that "a single word, a phrase or even a line of poetry and the entire universe is illuminated." Zen calligraphy has eloquently expressed the Dharma for centuries.
Eido Roshi has been continuously at the center of Buddhism in America - watching it, helping it grow - longer than any other living person. He has taught Zen to Americans for almost half a century.
The scroll was framed in Japan using the traditional method. The colour and pattern of mounting materials have been chosen to reflect the subject of the calligraphy. The museum-quality scroll comes with a wooden presentation box and a protective inner case.
The Zen Studies Society was established in 1956 to assist the Buddhist scholar D.T. Suzuki in his efforts to introduce Zen to the West. In 1972, Eido Shimano Roshi received dharma transmission and today serves as the abbot and spiritual teacher of two zendos in the Japanese Rinzai Zen tradition.
