Description

Lungta is the word for the self-existing energy of basic goodness from the Shambhala teachings, and KI and SO are the syllables that invoke it.

This "Ki So Lungta" calligraphy accompanied a flower arrangement in a show in Boulder in the early 1980's. Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche inscribed the calligraphy on the spot applying ink and brush directly to the arrangement's satin-covered base. When the show closed its various parts were hastily dismantled and the bases, calligraphies and all, ended up in the back of a pick-up truck. Only one of the calligraphies survived, removed and safeguarded for the past 25 years by the person who's now offering it for auction. The satin still has the telltale signs of its initial rough handling but the more telling and enduring signs are of the care and attention with which it has been lovingly restored and conserved. This is a calligraphy with a rich history. It is now available to all.

Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche was one of the leading Buddhist teachers of the 20th century and a pioneer in bringing Buddhism to the West. He was a poet, painter, and calligrapher whose teachings on dharma art described a profound connection between meditative mind and the creative process.
