Description
The Madeline Experience, from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays.Several afternoons a week, Bemelmans Bar in the Carlyle hotel on upper Madison Avenue is for children (and their adult guests).
Ludwig Bemelmans, who decorated the room, wrote the Madeline children's books. High tea coupled with decadent desserts such as Bemelmans Teany Burgers and Fries, Pepitos Crudités and Dips, Petite Banana Splits Fontainebleau and even Eiffel Tower Hot Fudge Sundaes with a Cherry on top! Also among the lunch and afternoon tea offerings are 12 little shrimps in two straight lines, just like the girls in the books. There is also an Eiffel Tower sundae, piano music and storytelling.
Standing at the corner of 76th Street and Madison Avenue, The Carlyle, a Rosewood Hotel, has been an enduring landmark for East Side social life since 1930 and was named one of the top three hotels in New York City and 49th in the world by Condé Nast Traveler.
