In 2008, head coach Sunny Golloway led the OU baseball team into the championship round of an NCAA Regional for the third time in his four years at the helm.  The Sooners advanced to their 31st NCAA Tournament after a strong finish to the season which included an appearance in the Big 12 Championship where OU was one game away from playing for the conference title.   In the 2008 Tempe Regional, OU defeated No. 22 Vanderbilt on two occasions and was eliminated by the host school and No. 4 team in the country, Arizona State.OU was one of four Big 12 schools to advance to the final game of NCAA Regional play.  Three Sooners, Aljay Davis, Aaron Baker and Mike Gosse were named to the All-Tournament team giving OU 13 such honorees since Golloway took over at the end of the 2005 season.  The Sooners began the tournament with an 8-5 win over the No. 2 seed Vanderbilt to advance to the winner’s bracket against the host Sun Devils.  The No. 4 team in the country handed OU a 15-3 defeat and sent the Sooners into the elimination round where they again topped the No. 22 Commodores.  Following an exciting 11-10 win that ended Vanderbilt’s season, which included a two-run walk-off home run by Aaron Baker in the bottom of the ninth, OU was outplayed by Arizona State, 12-0, in the championship game of the regional.Oklahoma finished 36-26-1 overall in 2008 and was the top hitting program in Big 12 action with a .316 clip.  Including the NCAA postseason run, the Sooners concluded the year with five wins over ranked opponents, including three top ten teams (No. 9 Oklahoma State, No. 8 Texas A&M, No. 9 Missouri and No. 22 Vanderbilt, twice).
