The 2008 Football Season is upon us and it’s time to reserve your tailgating spot! The Bears will be joining the Golden Hurricanes in Tulsa on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at 6:00pm. Don’t miss this thrilling game! TU had a 9-4 win for the 2007 Season.
Ever wondered how TU became nicknamed the Golden Hurricane? The origination of The University of Tulsa nickname - Golden Hurricane - came in 1922. A new football coach, Howard Acher, came to town and inherited a slew of nicknames dating back to 1895. After a remark was made in practice one day about "roaring through opponents," and because of their new jersey colors, he thought of Golden Tornadoes. The name was taken but from the tornado, he evolved meteorologically to the hurricane.
