“What should I write about?  Where do I begin?”  I will work with your student for a phone consultation and do two sets of comments on the drafts.

The consultation will help your student brainstorm on an appropriate topic.  When students care about their topic and they let go of “what they want” they tend to write more vibrant and engaging essays.

After a first draft is done, I’ll give comments on structure and tone.

When a revised draft is finished, I will give general proofreading comments.  (Please note, I do not proofread or edit essays, but I will highlight places that are confusing so the student can take an extra look at that place.)
