Description

José Limón Dance Company, gelato/espresso

Wednesday, April 23, 2008, 7:30pm

Acclaimed for its dramatic expression, technical mastery and expansive, yet nuanced movement, the Limón Dance Company illustrates the timelessness of José Limón’s work and vision. "For drama, virtuosity and grace, there is no finer company," asserts New York's Village Voice. In their concert here, they will perform three pieces: "The Traitor," a re-telling of the Christ and Judas story; "A Choreographic Offering," a tribute to Limón's mentor, Doris Humphrey, danced to music by Bach; and "Psalm," inspired by an ancient Jewish belief in people who bear all the sorrows of  the world. José Limón freed the male dancer from their supporting roles for ballerinas and provided grand, exciting choreography for men, a legacy that shows clearly in the strong, passionate dances represented in this program.
