Description

Reflecting the colors of the earth, water, and sky, this necklace is hand-strung on 74 inches of silk cord.  A continuous loop to drape around your neck once, twice, or even three times; it's a new look every time you wear it.  I designed this piece around the long multi-colored beads to honor the Ugandan women who made them.  They are artisans in the Bead for Life Program which provides impoverished Ugandan women an opportunity to earn a living by creating these beautiful beads from recycled papers.  The beaders are women living with HIV/AIDS as well as refugees displaced by a devastating civil war in AIDS orphans.  Each bead is unique and handmade but not waterproof, so don't go swimming with this one on.
