BURNT OFFERINGS by Fran
 
"Cardinal in the Oak" is the latest creation of Fran Thrower, an artist who resides in Oakboro, North Carolina with her husband, Tom.  This unique piece of gourd art forms a lidded container, with the cut hidden within the engraved trim.  Organically grown in California, the shape and markings of this gourd were considered in the original sketches.  The design was then drawn on the gourd as a guide for the time consuming and detailed work of burning the image onto the surface with pyroengraving tools.  Color was then applied and a protective finish added.
