ANDY C

Andy’s strength as an artist begins with his ability to reproduce images from photographs, sculptures and still-life models.  During the process, however, he will deconstruct the images and redefine them in his own terms.  He dissects his subjects into a collection of separate parts and has them float around inside a weightless world.  Hands hover over arms that drift away from the body.  Wheels roll independently beneath the chassis of a car.  His motivation for this is unclear, but the same process is used while coloring. His paints are unmixed and loosely brushed within the lines.  His colors never cross.  He forgoes all techniques of layering and just concentrates on translating a 3 dimensional world in to a two dimensional one.

Andy is one of ASI’s most widely exhibited artists.  His work has been on view locally at galleries including Hallwalls with the Locust Street group, El Museo, Castellani, St. Joseph Hospital Gallery, Impact Gallery, Karpeles Manuscript Museum, Gallery 51, Partners in Art Gallery, Langston Hughes Institute, WNED Gallery, as well as at the Oliver Street Art Festival in North Tonawanda
