Blu light PhotoDynamic Therapy kills acnes bacteria in your skin. Prior to the Blu light treatment, the topical medicine Levulan® is applied to the skin and left on for about 30-40 minutes. The Levulan is then removed, and the Blu light treatment is administered. The Blu light treatment involves sitting in front of the Blu light system for a number of minutes, and has shown minimal adverse side effects or discomfort. When Levulan is used in conjunction with Blu light, effects may include mild stinging or burning during treatment, skin turning slightly pink for a few days after treatment, or mild crusting. The acne may look worse before improvement begins, but the use of Levulan with Blu light may optimize the reduction of acne over time.
