The sole source of fruit for our Black Cougar Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon is Black Cougar Ridge - a cascading two-sided ridge on Alexander Mountain Estate overlooking the Alexander Valley. Black Cougar Ridge's extreme 15-to-30 degree slopes boast deep, rocky volcanic soil covered by rich red topsoil. We selected fruit for this wine only from Black Cougar Ridge's southwest ridge which, due to its extended exposure to the sun, produces more intense Cabernet Sauvignon.

The color, nose and flavors of this wine benefit from Black Cougar Ridge's 1,300-foot elevation. Struggling to grow on steep terrain, the grapes developed a deep crimson color and earthy nose. The mountain fruit exudes notes of cedar and pine on the nose which are enhanced by blackberry and other dark fruit flavors on the palate. Complex tannins are unmistakable and lend to a long finish.
