Description
One of the oldest and most distinguished independent libraries in the United States combining the advantages of a public library and containing the great works of learning and science in all languages. This is the center of intellectual life in Boston and is one of the five largest libraries in the United States. The Antheum supports an art gallery and sponsors lively events and serves as a stimulating center for discussions among scholars, bibliophiles and community groups.
Special Instructions
The Boston Athenaeum requires all candidates for membership to complete the standard application on which the candidate will provide at least two references (personal or business). These references do not need to be members of the Athenaeum. References will be contacted to verify the candidate's ability to handle the book collections responsibly.
