Description

The Inn at Sacred Clay Farm is a graceful four-story post-and-beam structure in a stunning, yet peaceful, country setting just two and a half miles from charming, historic Lanesboro.  Erected in 2001, the Inn features breathtaking views from its impressive porches, full-length windows of the great room and soaring inside balconies. The Inn is decorated in warm, pleasing colors, offering a welcoming, peaceful retreat from the hectic pace of everyday life.  In an effort to create an inviting place of respite and renewal for our guests, there are no televisions, computer hook-ups or telephones in our guest rooms. Extraordinary artwork, rugs and accessories from many different countries adorn the Inn-giving it an appealing international flavor.  As much as possible, these items are "fair trade", crafted by fairly paid adults under safe and sustainable working conditions.  Several marvelous local artists have done work on the Inn as well.

Your stay for 2 will be an overnight in the Cranberry Room on a Sunday - Thursday. (certificate expires September 2009)

A bit of the renaissance comes through the rich cranberry and cream colors that greet you as you walk under the stained glass transom and through the arched entrance of the Cranberry Room.  In addition to a handcrafted, walnut, queen size sleigh bed and bedroom set, this room also features a comfortable sitting area.  East and south facing windows bring in the warm morning light.  A private bathroom with shower is tucked in between massive Douglas fir beams.

The Inn is owned and operated by Sandy and Fred Kiel.  It is their firm belief that we must all strive to make the world a better place.  Part of that directive is to nurture and care for the environment, whether locally or globally.  As they take steps in their commitment to a healthier environment they are always pleasantly surprised at all the benefits they reap.  It is their hope that their guests feel the same way.  As part of their commitment to the environment they:

  • Grow and maintain a large organic garden

  • Compost all organic waste and use as fertilizer in the garden

  • Purchase organic foods at cooperatives, with an eye to regionally-grown items

  • Serve free-range, organic meats and eggs raised by local farmers

  • Brew organic, fairly-traded coffee and teas

  • Use zero chemicals to maintain our grounds and gardens

  • Rent our tillable land to a certified organic farmer

  • Provide natural, hand-made soaps made specially for the Inn

  • Clean and disinfect with only natural, biodegradable cleaners

  • Wash sheets and linens in all-natural, scent free, non-toxic detergent

  • Line-dry all linens outdoor when weather permits

  • Replace lights with only compact fluorescent bulbs

  • Generate energy by the wind turbine to provide for 30% of the electricity demands of the Inn

  • Use radiant in-floor heating, which is 98% efficient compared to less than 50% for forced air
