Description
Two dead center Row H seats to see Joan Baez live at the beautiful Golden State Theatre on February 16, 2008, the opening night of Joan's 50th Anniversary Tour. 2008 is a landmark year for Joan Baez, marking 50 years since she began her legendary residency at Boston's famed Club 47. She remains a musical force of nature whose influence is incalculable - marching on the front line of the civil rights movement with Martin Luther King Jr., singing on the first Amnesty International tour and just this year, standing alongside Nelson Mandela when the world celebrated his 90th birthday in London's Hyde Park.
A stunning soprano, Joan's natural vibrato lends a taut, nervous tension to everything she sings. Her repertoire reflects a different sensibility from her peers. Although the songs may be traditional, there is an acknowledgment of the human condition.
In February 2007, Joan Baez received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. The day after she received the honor, she appeared at the Grammy ceremony and introduced a performance by The Dixie Chicks. Baez's new album, "Day After Tomorrow," produced by Steve Earle has just been released.
On June 29, 2008, Baez played the final set on the Acoustic Stage at the Glastonbury Festival in England to a packed audience, and on July 6, 2008, she played at the Montreux Jazz festival in Montreux, Switzerland.
