Description
This Zapotec earthenware pot and its base were created by Macrina Mateo-Martinez in the Oaxaca high-mountain valley region of Mexico. Martina is recognized for her work and conducts workshops for the Kansas City Art Institute’s “Artes y Artisanos” program in Mexico. These pieces feature red-slipped surfaces, are burnished, and then open-wood fired. Though created around 1994, the techniques have been used in the Oaxaca Valley since ancient times.
