Fund a Need gives donors the opportunity to make every classroom equipped to facilitate a superior educational arts & music program at MdTL...

Music Fund a Need

Through Amanda’s guidance this year, each MdTL classroom has experienced music through a variety of mediums.  Whether it be creating musical beats and sounds with their whole bodies, or playing percussion instruments, whether it be using their ears and voices to hear the notes and sing their own beautiful music, or using movement activities and dance to truly FEEL the music that they are creating…   So many skills are garnered & lessons are learned through MdTL’s music program.  Oftentimes unknowingly, through the practice of song and playing of instruments and movement games, students are developing a sense of spacial awareness, being mindful of their ears and their neighbors’; they are developing gross & fine motor skills; they are learning the joy that can be created by imitating funny sounds and exploring their own voices… They are developing their discerning ears and are growing a sense of themselves and their roles in their community.

And SO much more could be accomplished with your family’s generous donation to MdTL’s Music Fund a Need.  With your support, MdTL will be able to expand its World percussion collection, including larger African-style drums for the Upper Elementary classroom, and adding smaller ethnic instruments for Primary and Lower Elementary, such as Chinese cymbals and gongs and percussion from African and South American countries.

 Art Fund a Need

Thanks to Julie’s devotion to MdTL’s art program, she has been able to work with all of the Lower Elementary students at one time or another, giving drawing lessons in small groups, practicing calligraphy, or exploring other techniques and media during her two mornings per week in their classroom.  Julie is also responsible for inventing and maintaining the free-choice art activities for the art shelves in Lower El, and for assisting children in various three-dimensional projects which are then used to enhance students’ presentations to their own and other classes throughout the school.

The rest of her time is spent managing MdTL’s very successful ART MESSAGE box which allows students to request her help in planning and executing a variety of art projects that capture their imaginations.  Through the process, the students learn problem-solving by breaking down artistic “challenges” into solvable steps and create the most tremendous of dreams- from marble mazes, to pirate ships, to volcanoes.

And so much more could be accomplished with your donation to MdTL’s Art Fund a Need…  Our “wish list” includes a structure to house art supplies and projects, additional art supplies, and the ability to bring the artist in residence from a part time to a full time presence in our school.

Thank you in advance for your consideration of these very important causes!
