Description

Limited Edition Print, "Wendameen" passing Rockland Breakwater Light, Maine by Loretta Krupinski - Maritime Artist. #83 of 500. Unframed print. Image size, 19" x 26". This is a John Alden Schooner Yacht - built in 1912, L.O.A. 67'.

Originally from Long Island, New York, Loretta Krupinski moved to south east coastal Connecticut, and currently lives in MidCoast Maine. After graduating with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts degree from Syracuse University, Ms. Krupinski worked for many years as an illustrator and graphic designer, but has chosen to pursue a dual career as a maritime artist and an author and illustrator of 27 books for children. She has won numerous awards for both.

As a studio painter, Ms. Krupinski prefers to paint local harbors and classic wood boats. Her move to coastal Maine has prompted an additional interest in historical paintings of the maritime industry. As a sailor herself, she has come to know first hand the subjects she chooses to paint. Ms. Krupinski believes in the importance of preserving the images of the maritime waterfront for the future. Historical black and white photographs come to life through paint brush and color.

Ms. Krupinski is a Fellow and board member of the American Society Of Marine Artists.

"Although I am and artist with one mind and one set of hands, I do indeed inhabit two different worlds. One in the fine arts world as an award winning maritime artist, and the other as a children's book author/illustrator. Both provide me with a diverse variety of images to work with.

There are many common dominators as well as the difference between the two. Both the maritime art and the illustrations share the same artistic fundamentals, such as composition, prospective, color and good basic drawing. Because my work is detailed and realistic, I spend much time researching my subject whether they are historical objects or toys.

Throughout my life, I have grown up around the water. My love of boating and maritime subjects has been imprinted on me since I was a child. My talent is with marine subjects, that is: water, boats, rocks and harbors. An artist does his best work when he really knows his subject. My marine art deals with realism and detail, in oils on canvas. Children's books are different because the subject matter allows my mind and imagination to wander into a realm of fun and fantasy. I don't paint what I see before me because I create it in my mind first. I paint with opaque water color called gouache which is much faster drying."
