Description

Duncan and David Yandell - Traditional Cape Breton style Fiddle and Piano

This father-son duo from Williston play a wide range of traditional and modern tunes in the Cape Breton style of Scottish celtic music. Duncan is a sensational 17 year-old fiddler and a senior at CVU.  He is a VYO member and soloist for the 2008-2009 season.  He has won local and regional fiddle competitions, dazzling audiences and judges with ornamentation, speed, and musicality far beyond his years.  He began classical violin at age 7 and started fiddling a year later. He learned the Cape Breton style at the Gaelic College of St. Ann, Nova Scotia, and the Ceilidh Trail School of Music with legendary fiddlers Jerry Holland, Howie Macdonald, Ashley MacIsaac, Jennifer Roland, Dwayne Cote, and Kimberley Fraser. Duncan is building a reputation as a rising star with a loyal and enthusiastic following on the Celtic music scene.  Duncan's father David is a Professor at UVM. He studied jazz piano as a youth, and has traveled to Nova Scotia to learn the Cape Breton style of piano accompaniment both at the Ceilidh Trail School and the Gaelic College of St. Ann. The Yandells are popular performers at public and private functions, ceilidhs, and festivals in Vermont.  Duncan also plays in a celtic rock band, Pale Fire, with high school friends; a separate performance by Pale Fire is also available in this auction.

Performance is suitable for small or large venues and includes sound reinforcement as needed for the venue.  Donation includes up to two 40 minutes sets of music; special musical requests (e.g. for weddings) by prior agreement only.  The performance must occur before August 1, 2009 and is subject to scheduling/availability of dates.
