Joanna Hershon received a masters of fine arts in fiction from Columbia University in 1999 and has been teaching at the undergraduate level at Columbia for over 5 years.

The winning bidder will receive signed, personalized copies of each of Ms. Hershon's first three critically acclaimed novels: Swimming and The Outside of August and her most recent, The German Bride.

Joanna Hershon had the inspired idea to set her novel among the German-born merchants and traders who in the middle of the 19th century left Europe for the raw possibilities of the American West.
