This rug is a Persian Gabbeh from the Zagros Mountain area of Iran.

It is hand woven of handspun, vegetable dyed wool. Hand spinning allows more lanolin to remain in the wool which is both lustrous and durable as a result.

Gabbehs are woven by nomadic women who take their design inspiration from their surroundings.

These primitive, traditional rugs have only recently come to be appreciated in Europe and the United States.

The rug is beautiful enough to hang on a wall in a place of honor. Also, the rug is sturdy enough to grace the floor in a high traffic area of any home.
