Russian conductor Yuri Temirkanov conducts the BSO at Symphony Hall for the first time since 1984. He and the orchestra are joined by the acclaimed young German violinist Julia Fischer for Beethoven's unmatched Violin Concerto, German soprano Juliane Banse, known for her perofrmances of a wide range of music from old to new, Lieder to opera, makes her BSO debut as soloist in the "ode to Heavenly Joy" finale of Mahler's warmest symphony, the Symphony No. 4.
