Huichol Prayer Bowl

Item Number: 1011

Description
This Huichol prayer bowl was purchased from Plant Spirit Medicine teacher, Eliot Cowan. He brought these bowls back to the US after studying with his Huichol teacher and sold them for the artisans who made them. The bowls are made by applying a sticky mixture of beeswax and resin to the inside of a gourd, and then tiny glass beads are placed, one at a time, until the pattern is complete. You can see the traditional peyote design in the center of this bowl; peyote represents the doorway to the spirit world. This bowl also has a tuft of animal hair, though I am not sure of what kind. There are three animals in the beaded design. The prayer bowl is said to hold visions and inspiration. It's how the Huichol honor the life force that flows throughout creation.
