Description
Don’t miss this unique opportunity for your child and his/her friends – or you and group of your friends – to participate in a private afternoon tour of the acclaimed Stanford Robotics Lab with renowned Professor Sebastian Thrun, expert in probabilistic robotics. Thrun is a Professor of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, where he also serves as the Director of the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Lab (SAIL). He is also the Overall Leader of the Stanford Racing Team, which built the robotic cars that won the 2005 DARPA (the Pentagon’s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) Grand Challenge, and placed 2nd in the 2007 DARPA Urban Challenge. These two competitions were devised to promote research in the area of autonomous (driverless) vehicles in various conditions (off-road and urban settings).
As part of your private group tour, you will get to experience some of the world’s most cutting edge technology first-hand and enjoy a ride in “Junior,” the prize-winning car that raced in the 2007 DARPA Urban Challenge. Junior is a modified 2006 VW Passat that operates as an autonomous ground vehicle, navigating and driving entirely on its own with no human driver and no remote control. Through the use of various sensors and positioning systems, Junior can navigate busy, urban environments, negotiating heavy traffic, lane changes, traffic circles, and busy four-way intersections with or without lights.
This item is for four to six participants, children or adults. Children under 12 will need to be accompanied by a parent chaperone. Dates are flexible and are to be arranged with Professor Thrun.
