Special Instructions

"It was taken several years ago in the Mississippi Delta as I often drive through the Delta during the winter months with my camera.  I found this piano laying on its side inside an abandoned church.  Everything was decaying with the exception of the piano's beautiful keys.  It was as if I could still hear the music.  To me, that fits Dr. Fortenberry."  Lea Barton

Lea Barton's work as a visual artist is deeply rooted in her life in the South--the South with all its moral complexity past and present, its tragedy and comedy and beauty. It is as if Barton has observed and put to use whatever comes her way, whatever she can make her own and transform. Look at these mixed media works for a long time. You’ll find tucked away images with a ruthless irony that gives a lie to pretension. - Ellen Douglas, Author
