Be prepared for an old-fashioned good time!  Mount Whitney is in the Sierra Nevada range in California.  At an elevation of 14,505 feet above sea level, it is the highest point in the contiguous United States.  We will host a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the highest mountain in the lower 48 from the serenity of our historic family home.  Lots of local hiking, home cooked meals and s'mores!

Our charming river rock and redwood summer cabin was built by our dear family friend and has been enjoyed by our family for four generations...and counting!  It is one of 25 historic homes built in Whitney Portal the 1940's and since then a moratorium for any development keeps the land pristine.  Please note: There is no electricity! We use propane for lights and a generator for charging our cell phones (phone reception varies).  If you can't live without a cell phone this trip is not for you!

The cabin has:

* kitchen,

* large living room with a

* wood burning fireplace

* fold out double sofa-bed(sleeps 2)

* built-in window bed(sleeps 1)

* loft sleeping for 6 adults.

* ONE bathroom with modern toilet

* newly refurbished outhouse.

Please be advised the steep stairs and upstairs loft (with opening to lower level) may be dangerous for very small children!
