Description

TANGLED 2008, 24"X20", oil and ink on canvas.

Saule Piktys was born in Kaunas, Lithuania. She grew up in the capital city, where she received her master's in architecture and fine art from the Vilnius Academy of Art. In 1989, six months after graduation, she flew to Los Angeles for a group show that included herself; her grandmother Domicele Tarabildiene, a nationally renowned Lithuanian artist; and four other family members. Saule chose to stay in Los Angeles and began an extensive career in art production that has ranged from textile to interior design.

She worked as a background artist for the animation, scenic, and graphic departments for nearly all of the major studios, including CBS, FOX, NBC, Paramount, Sony, and WB Productions. For the last decade, Saule's work has shown across the United States and in 2005 she became a full-time studio artist. In 2006 she received her first solo show in her home country of Lithuania, and in 2007 she was invited to exhibit /retrospective/ at the M. K. Ciurlionis National Art Museum in Kaunas, Lithuania. Her work is now part of the permanent collection.
