Description
Artist: Ali Clift
Violin Name: Air and Simple Gifts
Inspiration Quote: In 2005 I spent a week rafting down the Colorado River, slipping between the towering walls of the Grand Canyon. This experience inspired my violin and my recent series of painting entitled, “Air and Simple Gifts.”
Bio: Ali uses cloth as her paint medium. Intensely colored fabric is glazed with darker sheer fabric overlays. Thread becomes line. The layers, sewn by hand, create illusions of sun and shadow, wide open skies covering vast expanses of earth, fragments of a letter carried by the wind. Clift has been honored with a retrospective at the Fuller Art Museum and her works can be found in private and public collections including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Fogg Museum of Harvard University, the DeCordova Museum, Lincoln, MA, and the Neka Museum, Bali, Indonesia, among others. Locally, Clift’s work is represented by and can be seen at Pucker Gallery, Newbury Street, Boston.
