Description
Artist’s Name: Carle Shi
Inspiration Statement: Inspired by sculpture by the great 20th Century Surrealist Salvador Dali, Shi’s violin makes a unique visual representation of the connection of music and the brain and the resulting multitudes of emotional effects.
BIO: Born in Tianjin China in 1961, Carle Shi has painted for as long as she can recall. Encouraged by family as far back as 8 years old they told her she could be a great artist. Instilled with this confidence, she was selected to study at the prestigious Tianjin Art School where she studied under Master Chinese painters. Focusing on the attention to detail and the strict adherence to the “foundations” gave Shi superior technical skills, however it was her passion that led to her success. A graduate from the Masters Program at the New York Academy of Arts’ graduate School of Figurative Art, Carle Shi is creating landmark works in which the human figure acts as a vehicle for intensely emotional statements. The Smithsonian Institute of Fine Art in Washington, D.C. recently honored Carle with top honors in their National Portrait competition in 2006. Most recently, a collection of her paintings were featured in the United Nations Gallery in New York. The exhibit "Tears for Lasting Peace," focuses on the experiences by parents, spouses, and children for their beloved ones who died in the wars. The paintings move beyond mere politics, but to a level of deep human sympathy; Shi’s way of expressing her hope to bring about Lasting Peace to the world. Represented by Galerie d’Orsay, Shi’s works may be viewed in the gallery or by visiting: www.galerie-dorsay.com.
