5^th grade students created four beautiful Matisse inspired posters for this year’s auction.  The Chesapeake Bay theme was inspired by one of Matisse’s works, “Les Bêtes de la Mer,” (Beasts of the Sea) in which he created an abstracted underwater scene out of colorful cut out papers.  The pieces that the students created, titled “Les Bêtes de la Bay,” are a play on that theme, depicting underwater and above water Chesapeake Bay scenes. The resulting works are wonderfully colorful and creative, reflecting abstracted Bay wildlife set against geometric backgrounds that are both bold and eye catching!  The framed posters are 27 ½” x 39 ¼”.
